Course Description:
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) in dentistry, exploring its value, strengths, and limitations in clinical practice. Participants will gain an understanding of CBCT’s field of view (FOV), image reconstruction, and projections, along with when and how to use CBCT for various dental applications. The course also covers essential aspects of radiographic reporting, software utilization, and working in a 3D space for virtual implant planning and bone assessment.
A hands-on session will allow participants to work with CBCT software using real images for practical application.
Course Objectives:
- Identify CBCT strengths and limitations in diagnostics and treatment planning.
- Understand Field of View (FOV) variations and DICOM file formats.
- Explain image reconstruction and projection methods.
- Analyze CBCT images using the correct orientation, terminology, and 3D navigation.
- Utilize software for virtual implant planning and bone assessment.
- Manipulate CBCT volumes and navigate imaging software.
- Perform hands-on exposure and analysis using real CBCT images.
*Please note that a separate RCDSO-approved course is required in order to apply for the CBCT permit.
